During periods of extreme snowfall, compounded by wind, avalanche potential becomes a very serious issue. Whenever in avalanche terrain, or beneath or adjacent to avalanche terrain, it is imperative to be vigilant. Avoid recreating and unnecessary travel in such areas. Pay close attention to weather forecasts and conditions in real time. The Sierra Avalanche Center (SAC) website is an excellent resource for the most updated information. The SAC has the forecast for today, February 18th, 2026, at HIGH/4 (out of 5) on all aspects and at all elevations. https://www.sierraavalanchecenter.org/
Additionally, be sure you have functioning Carbon Monoxide detectors and be sure to maintain all chimney flues and furnace exhaust ports to avoid a Carbon Monoxide hazard in your home. If your Carbon Monoxide detector activates, evacuate everyone from the structure and call 911.
